Six of us met last night at the Worker's Tap in SE Portland to officially launch my campaign. We filled out the required paper work with Michael stepping up to be treasurer. We need 110,001 vote to win in November. We will get there by: reaching out for endorsements, handing our fliers at events, knocking on doors, social media and lawn signs.
Two years ago the Green candidate for the position received 10,000 votes so we need to increase that by a factor of 10. We have a few things working in our favor: 1) there is no incumbent as Blumenauer is retiring, 2) there is wide-spread dissatisfaction with the Democrat candidate as they won the primary with an ugly AIPAC-powered smear campaign against the popular front-runner Susheela Jayapal, and 3) the usual Democrat trope of 'spoiler' is not relevant: even if I split the Democrat vote in half, the Republican still comes in 3rd.
It was a productive meeting and brought six people together in good spirits to work for peace, people and planet.
